KR calls for more flag state checks on its ships
The Korean Register of Shipping has repeated an earlier call for the South Korean government to increase the number of inspection it makes of Korean-flag ships. The move comes as new Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control figures show that Japan and Hong Kong detained 29 South Korean ships last year while Russia stoped two ships and Chine one. KR says, however, that KR ships now have a good reputation in the US where only one South Korean ship was detained last year, compeared to three in each of the preceding two years.
