gdm can't find X?

I am getting this in my messages

gdm[1156]: gdm_server_spawn: Xserver not found: Standard

This is on a system that was working until the last reboot.  The only thing that I can think of that could have happened is I had a bad software install that cleared my /usr/bin but I had a recent backup and feel like I got a good restore.  Any idea what it is looking for?  This is on a redhat 7.2 system with ximian.
