[gDesklets] Http Proxy

I want to include a http proxy in my goodweather gdesklet since I am
sitting in a student dorm.
I have a ssh tunnel running which creates a socks4 server. The code
'export HTTP_PROXY=127.0.0.1:1080' in __init__.py creates the following
error message.
"An error occurred while executing a desklet."
What have I done wrong?
