Not deprecated, but discouraged.

Not seeing that here:
[markmc blaa ~]$ gconftool-2 -s -t pair --car-type int --cdr-type bool /tmp/foo "(1,true)"
[markmc blaa ~]$ gconftool-2 -g /tmp/foo
(1,true)
