Is GConf suitable for daemons?

It would be cool to use GConf as a configuration backend for
server-applications with hot-reconfiguration. It would also have the
nice effect of not introducing yet another strange configuration file
format...

How safe would it be to use GConf from an application run by root,
possibly dealing with untrusted data?

What about threading? Apache style process pooling?
