help with multiple machines, one user

Hi,

I'm trying to follow the directions at http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/
but I don't quite follow.

I'm supposed to edit the file orbitrc but I can't seem to find it (Gnome2).
How will one machine know which other machine is running gconfd?
I don't have a firewall between the 2 machines but I DO have it set up 
so that
only slogins are allowed between machines. Is that okay?
