gconf + NFS =Problem ?!

Hallo,
i just installed ximian gnome for suse7.3. The desktop works
fine, but i can't start Evolution, Galeon etc..

After logging in the xsession i receive the following message on the
console:

gconfd (user-5715): Failed to write byte to pipe fd 6 so client 
program may hang: Broken pipe

galeon doesn't start and says:

GConf Error: GConf error:
Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is 
that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but 
it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines 
at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit)

My system suse 7.3, local installation of gnome, home dirs imported
via NFS.

rpc.statd is running. After logging in gconf doesn't run.
gconftool --spawn doesn't return.

WHAT'S WRONG ?
