Something similar came up on IRC last night, and you probably just need
to install the proper X devel packages provided by Ubuntu. HTH

sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins0.8-dev libgstreamer0.8-dev

cd desktop/gst-plugins && make clean && make install
cd ../desktop && make paranoid-install

Should clean it up.
