It took better than 9 hours on an portable running at 1 MHz with ccache
but starting from scratch took care of the problem.

Two other minor things came up along the way:

1) Some part of the build -- I don't recall where exactly -- prompted
for my password; possibly a "sudo" somewhere near the start of the
evolution build.

2) "make paranoid-install" failed in totem: insufficient permissions
when installing libtotem_mozilla.so to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.10/plugins
(and not ~/garnome as I was expecting).
