Forgot to mention that once you've grabbed cvs you need to:

cd garnome-cvs
cp gar.conf.mk.in gar.conf.mk
cp gar.gnome.mk.in gar.gnome.mk

You only need to do this once unless something in either gar.conf.mk.in
or gar.gnome.mk.in changes.
