pango-1.9.0 emits a continous stream of warning messages

pango-1.9.0 is "damaged". Any application that links to it will
continuously spew out warnings about a failed assertion in
pango_context_load_font()
The current code in CVS [Changlog: 27June05] does not appear to have
this problem.
