Problems with GDM in Garnome-2.8

I have installed Garnome 2.8 successfully. Only I encounter a strange
problem when I try to use the new GDM. My X server starts up, showing
the default X background and then just exits without any error message,
even in -nodaemon mode and is imediatly restarted by GDM. Starting the
Gnome Sesssion with startx works though.
Any Ideas where this could come from?
