Python and garnome-2.8.0.3.

Hi:

While building garnome-2.8.0.3, I'm getting:

   ==> Running configure in work/main.d/pygtk-2.4.0
   ...
   checking whether /usr/bin/python version >= 2.3... configure: error: too old
   make[3]: *** [configure-work/main.d/pygtk-2.4.0/configure] Error 1

Clearly, my installed version of python (which happens to be 2.2.2) is too old.
Do I need to upgrade my already installed copy, which will likely have lots of
dependency ramifications, or is there a way to tell garnome to include a
private version of the newer python which it builds for itself and installs
within its own tree?
