FT_Get_BDF_Property etc.

I've built fontgonfig, freetype, expat, and xft in bootstrap (as 
suggested in some google articles).  Some articles suggested building 
these in a certain order, which I'm not sure I did. Others say there are 
old libs or freetype2-related stuff lying around. Some say something 
about copying some fontconfig libs up into
/usr/lib and/or some Xft headers up into /usr/include someplace (I think 
I did this previously just to get through a previous make, but it caused 
problems on a reboot because I forgot to replace them with the old files).

Basically, I'm just not sure of the 'proper' way to get through this 
problem.
Any help?
