my two cents...
libpangoxft-1.0.so.0 and libpangoxft-1.0.so.0 are the ones that the vte
build bitches about.
in the current $GARNOME/lib directory, they are symbolic links that point to
libpangoxft-1.0.so.0.399.1
changing the symbolic links to point to an older libpangoxft version
libpangoxft-1.0.so.0.200.5, solves the problem
