not finding glib when configuring atk (garnome 0.27.1)

Hi,

I'm attempting to install Gnome 2.4.0 using Garnome 0.27.1 on top of a
(fairly) fresh install of RH9 (fully-patched). I follow the standard
instruction with garnome and after a while, when its "configure"-ing atk
garnome falls over and prompts the following:

checking dynamic linker characteristics... GNU/Linux ld.so
checking for Win32... no
checking for aclocal flags...
checking for pkg-config... /home/ijonas/garnome/bin/pkg-config
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log
for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly
installed.
configure: error:
*** GLIB 2.0.0 or better is required. The latest version of
*** GLIB is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. If GLIB is
installed
*** but not in the same location as pkg-config add the location of the
file
*** glib-2.0.pc to the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH.

I've tried the suggestion and set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH and retried the
install but to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas ?
