Re: Installing and starting 0.27.1 on Red Hat 9

Hi Karen & Jens,

Thanks a lot for your help. The pdx.freedesktop.org/~xlibs/release link seems to have done the trick...at least for xft, xrender, and render.

The build went on for quite a bit longer this time, but it eventually stopped and gave me the following:

checking for bzCompressInit in -lbz2... no
checking bzlib.h usability... no
checking bzlib.h presence... no
checking for bzlib.h... no
configure: error: Gnome-vfs requires libbz2 to compile.
make[5]: *** [configure-work/main.d/gnome-vfs-2.4.0/configure] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/testuser/garnome-0.27.1/gnome/gnome-desktop'
make: *** [../../gnome/gnome-desktop/cookies/main.d/install] Error 2

Is libbz2 a system library I have to install? Forgive me, I'm still a Linux newbie.

Thanks a lot,
Allen Tam

Allen,

On a similar setup, I needed to change the MASTER_SITES = to point to
http://pdx.freedesktop.org/software/fontconfig/releases in the Makefile
in each of ~/garnome-0.27.1/bootstrap/{render,xft,xrender}. It is
possible that the files have moved yet again so Google for the
appropriate filenames and plug in the appropriate URLS as necessary.

I did manage to get 2.4 and most everything else running here other than
the mono-debugger...I'll get back to that someday when I have more
patience...or some kind soul sets me on the right track. Hope this
helps.

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I've successfully installed 0.27.1. When I install on Red Hat 9, I get the following errors at the very end of the installation. Can I ignore these errors?

My other problem is I can't seem to start Garnome. I've put the following script (from the Web site) in a "Garnome" file in /etc/X11/gdm/Session with the proper permissions. I log in through the GUI, select Garnome, but it says the session lasted less then 10 secs, and kicks me out to the log in screen.

#!/bin/sh
GARNOME=$HOME/garnome

PATH=$GARNOME/bin:$PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$GARNOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
PYTHONPATH=$GARNOME/lib/python2.2/site-packages
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$GARNOME/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/pkgconfig
GDK_USE_XFT=1

export PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH PYTHONPATH PKG_CONFIG_PATH GDK_USE_XFT

exec $GARNOME/bin/gnome-session

What else do I need to do? Any help is much appreciated!

Allen
