This was reported earlier along with a workaround. This happened to me for this
package  and one additional package. The workaround is to unzip the package into 
a seperate place, config and make it, then mv the resulting .o and .lo back to 
the garnome area. You will get the same warnings but not the error. Then simply 
go back and continue on with 'make install'
I got a fully functional desktop running with this and the other occasional 
hickup with ...../html/index.sgml
