VTE compilation problems

Hello there

I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and when I'm compiling the vte
garball it is trying to link against
/usr/lib/libpangoxft.so instead of
$HOME/garnome/lib/libpangoxft.so

How do I fix this in the Makefile... I've been trying
with some configure options but it doesn't work.  And
I don't want to symlink the library in /usr/lib
