starting garnome with gdm

hi,

got garnome 0.25.1 compiled just now, and apart from the 'missing
index.sgml' annoyance everything went well. however, i can't get
this version of garnome to play nice with it's own gdm.

first, there's an annoying little bug that puts the 'Sessions'-directory
in ~garnome/etc/dm/ (note the missing 'g'). took all of an hour to
figure out that one.

then, the 'last' session wouldn't work. okay, figured i had to start
from scratch, so removed all of my old session-stuff and restarted gdm.
tried the failsafe gnome session. that worked. logged out and back in
(defaulting to the 'last' session), and it won't start. an error-dialog
appears, saying 'gnome-settings-daemon' can't start, giving either '2 :
file not found' or 'no error returned' as a notice. ~/.xsession-errors
says nothing relevant (except the 'world-of-pain'-warning).

so now, the only thing left that works is the 'failsafe xterm' session,
and starting 'gnome-session' by hand. anyone got any idea how to figure
out what's going on ?

PS : whenever the session 'hangs' and i have to kill it, gconfd-2 keeps
on going. really annoying, that one.
