compiling on debian - error on reaching gnome-terminal

hey.
ive been trying to get garnome running on my machine,
but it stops at the compile stage with an error that
says:

coolect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[5]: *** [ssfe] Error 1
make[5]: Leaving directory
'.../garnome-0.25.1/gnome/vte/work/main.d/vte-0.11.10/src

i saw previous posts regarding the same topic, and it
was told to install ncurses-devel, but i dont see any
packages with that name.
i installed ncurses-base and ncurses-bin, then
libncurses5-dev andlibncurses5w-dev. then did a make
clean in the 'gnome-terminal' directory where the
compile stopped at.

but no difference - same error.

any ideas?
