Building GTK+ fails

hi,

I'm trying to install garnome 0.15 on my red hat 7.3 machine, but gtk+
fails because of the following error:

checking For sufficiently new FreeType (at least 2.0.1)... yes
configure: error: pangox Pango backend is required for x11 target
make: *** [configure-work/gtk+-2.0.6/configure] Error 1

I tried "make -k install" as suggested by someone on the gtk-list, but
that didn't work. pango.pc is right there in garnome/lib/pkgconfig.
