There seems to have been a change in metacity theme structure:

cd Metal
mkdir metacity-1
mv * metacity-1

Now the dir structure is right. Then do

metacity-theme-viewer Metal

IIRC it will tell you something about 'window type="border"' not being
set in Metal/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml not being set. Add what it
says you should (IIRC adding <window type="border" style_set="normal"/>
should do it [there is a bunch of other window type="border" tags in the
file, just add it])
Now, 'metacity-theme-viewer Metal' should work. If so, you can use the
theme
