garnome 0.18.3, builds, but crashes

I have been building garnome for a while. I decided to upgrade it once
again, and started a jump from 0.17.1 to 0.18.3. The build went ok, but
when I log in from gdm2 and start the garnome session, it hangs for a
while before I'm returned to gdm. My .xsession-errors reports a rather
plentiful assertion trace.

The final sentence is changing every time I try to log in, but the
others are the same. The shared library is though in the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. 

I'm totally at a loss, please help!
