fontconf configuration error

Hi,

While running the garnome script the "./configure" step for the
"fontconf" package failed with the error that neither expat.h nor
xmlparse.h could be found.

Searching for those missing headers revealed that they are
present in these locations:

/usr/include/php/ext/xml/expat/expat.h
/usr/include/apache/xml/xmlparse.h
/usr/include/mozilla/expat/xmlparse.h


Two questions:

1. How can I fix this expat library problem?

2. How do I run the garnome script again without repeating the
lengthy steps already completed?

Tha;n;ks for any advice.

This is a Slackware 8.1 distribution with everything from the
distro installed.
