Install REALLY that easy?

Is all it takes to try out the new release to download the garnome file tar
xvzf it, install it and kick it off?

Isn't it necessary to download the updated gnome files and such?

I'm running both Slackware 8.1 beta (VERY current items) and I just
installed SuSE 8.0 Pro.
I have access to high speed connections, so, downloading isn't a problem,
but, the directions from the page made it seem very simplistic.

Help?
