Check <garnome_dir>/etc/gconf/2/
edit "path" file and change:
xml:readonly:/gconf.xml.mandatory =>
xml:readonly:<garnome_dir>/etc/gconf/2/gconf.xml.mandatory
xml:readonly:/gconf.xml.defaults =>
xml:readonly:<garnome_dir>/etc/gconf/2/gconf.xml.defaults
It should help you to run garnome as regular users... And check your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH...
