making totem faster

Hello, 

This might be offtopic but it's said to be the list of "tweakers and
testers".
I'm running GARNOME on an iBook2 G3/600 with over 300 MB of RAM with
ydl2.3. When I watch DVDs near fullscreen size it doesn't run smooth any
more while audio is still fine.
Could anyone suggest some (I quote) "Batshit insane optimisations" for
linux-ppc which would bring the xine-related libs, xine and totem up to
speed? Are there other ways to optimize? 
xine-check says all [ good ]
