GNOME is at a critical junction. It can move toward world domination or fall
apart. The companies (besides Red Hat, Helixcode and Eazel) make some people
uneasy. Yet they offer the technology that may make GNOME fly.
The competition (KDE) is moving aggressively. The stakes are high. GNOME has
no time to rest or to get sidetracked. And it cannot afford internal
divisions or duplications of efforts.
Hope the GNOME leadership can make correct decisions along the way. Corporate
interests please try to avoid domination. Let hackers be in charge. Many
people care about GNOME because it is the free software desktop. It is a GNU
project, not a Sun or HP or IBM project.
Companies, please let GNOME be by the hackers, of the hackers and for the
hackers. And you will get the benefits of a standard desktop. Please help
from a distance.
May GNOME Foundation be as successful as Apache and gcc. Because the biggest
assest of GNOME is what it represents, not just technology, but the ideas
examplified by its name. May it advance G N U to new heights.
Just my 0.02 cent
