Downloaded Vera Serif today, and find that although it looks great on
screen, it doesn't print properly.

I am running Mac OS X 10.2 on a 1.0 GHz eMac and printing via Ethernet
to a Brother HL-5070N. The three Vera fonts are installed in user
~Library/Fonts. I have no font utilities installed -- no "fontconfig"
and AFAIK no "FreeType" unless that is included with OS X by Apple.

Although there is no oblique for Vera Serif, I see many random letters
printing oblique, and without serif -- maybe Vera Sans Oblique. Not all
letters are affected; some may print oblique without serif, while
others print properly. Also, the font size is a factor. In one test,
nine-point printed properly and 12-point did not.

It may be that different sequences of letters have an affect also. In
another test, with different text, 14-point printed properly, 12, 11 and
9 were garbage, and 8 was fine.

This problem occurs when printing from Cocoa programs, e.g., with
TextEdit and Nisus Writer Express. It does not occur when printing from
Carbon -- AppleWorks and Bare Bones Mailsmith.

Thanks for your help.
Bill
