I'm using Ubuntu Breezy and likewise installed a long list of
development packages before f-spot would compile. When I finally did
get it to compile, I used the following:

./configure; sudo make; sudo make install

I don't know if the first sudo is necessary, but the second one
certainly was. Also, I had to uninstall dbus through Synaptic (v. 0.38)
and compile it from source (v. 0.60).
