Hi, A patch adding a new function, e_data_book_view_update_prefitered_vcard, to EDS, is at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346670. Once this lands in CVS a small patch to the file backend will dramatically speed up book views for the common cases, as an EContact doesn't have to be created from a vcard for every contact it finds.
