In 2.2 it's improved somewhat -- as you say, the _storage_ is indeed
separate. But they do still pollute the IMAP namespace visually, by
being displayed amongst the IMAP folders. It's just that instead of
obscuring the existing folders with those names, the vFolders now appear
alongside them, so the user sees two folders with the same name.

That's not ideal for me because vertical space in the folder tree is at
a premium and the Junk folder in particular is right in the middle
between the Inbox and other folders I want to see. It's not good for my
father either -- showing two folders with the same name but different
behaviour is definitely going to confuse him.

Being able to turn them off still seems like the ideal solution, or
perhaps moving them _entirely_ outside the visual representation of the
IMAP server's namespace. Even just forcing them to the bottom of the
tree rather than being mixed in in alphabetical order might suffice, in
fact.
