Never the less I would still like it to go in if the patch is valid to
for changing to the requested behaviour.

Since you clearly believe its a bug then I think we need to add another
config option in 2.2 that allows the user to not auto mark messages as
read in the message, but mark them as read if opened in the message
browser.
