its needed for the deadline, Jeff can apply/commit the patch as is (with
the c99 fix, assuming he too has no material objections), but we'll
still need changelogs asap.

Will do at least the one-liners mentioned by notzed this afternoon, just
see if I can get it in time for the freeze (which is how late exactly btw?)
