Because then we'd be duplicating the what-goes-into-the-info-label code
in two places.
But you're already duplicating a whole pile of stuff ...
The changes to make the info label a control are actually pretty simple.
Most of the changes in the diff (especially in the mailer) were to make
the status bar work correctly in connector.

Well, in that case, we moved code out of the shell and into the
components, which is in line with the goals for 2.0.
Except that isn't what happened.  Now there's not only the corba shell interface implemented, there's also the requirement that the component *manually and specifically include* extra shell code, otherwise the shell can't work.  So actually its put more shell code into the components, in a pretty messy way at that.

So with just the corba interface it is conceivable you could have another shell written, with this new one it more tightly binds each component with the current one.

But now we've been able to do more with it, so *shrug*.
