Actually, I'm just going to commit you change since the only way I can
bring myself to address the shortcomings of the LDAP detection foo is to
completely scrap static ldap, and it has been pointed out that that
doesn't work for solaris (through a rather convoluted path of reasoning,
I assure you.)
