Your backend code does not need to handle this in 1.4. You use the
cal_backend_ref_categories and cal_backend_unref_categories functions to
let cal-backend know what categories are being used, and cal-backend
deals with sending the notifications automatically.
See cal-backend-file.c for more details about how this works (and for
any other changes).
