The modifications make sense, although in testing, I still saw
broken behavior once; I typed "pet" and immediately had a match from the
GAL, then I typed "e" before getting any matches from ldap.x.c, and then
I still didn't get any matches from it. So I think there's still
something messed up in the cancelling code.
