I'm not sure if it was the exact version, but yes, I was running a 
newer-than-shipped-with-RHL8.0 Mozilla.

I installed the just released 1.3 final, and Evo 1.3.1 is now working:

Obtained the new Mozilla RPMs from:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.3/Red_Hat_8x_RPMS/gtk2/i386/

No need to mess with /etc/ld.so.conf.
