True... it's not _needed_ but I think it makes life easier all round --
it's nice for the user to have a default command which does the right
thing in most cases, and also nice for us to prevent the host and
username from becoming redundant since that means the potential problems
you mentioned with the URL and lack of hostname etc. aren't actually
problems in reality.
