If I remember correctly, the topic you mention has been discussed
before, and the result was that information about actual transfer speed
is not something that is relevant for the large majority of users, and
since we want to keep the interface as clean as possible, it wasn't
included.
People like yourself who require this information are advised to use
separate network monitoring programs or download managers. Gwget2 for
instance may be worth to give a try.
