[Epiphany] compile problem: wants xml2 to be in /usr/X11

I get the following error when I gry to compile epiphany:

mkdir .libs
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/X11R6/lib/libxml2.la'

libxml2.la is located in /usr/lib on my system.  Why does the package
insist it should be in /usr/X11R6/lib?
