Exif information in eog

Has anyone considered adding exif support to eog?  I see that there's an
exif library here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/libexif

It looks like it would be really easy to display something like
time/date stamp to the status bar, or add a dialog box with complete
exposure information and camera settings.

Is anyone interested in something like this?  Would it be worth the
extra library dependency?  The library is small enough to be a static
library if necessary.  I would be glad to help implement this if this
feature could make it into eog.
