[Ekiga-list] Error: User Offline, even when the user is online

my friend used Ekiga on Windows and i have Arch GNU/Linux. i can make
a call to 500, test my voice ..fine.. ok

i can receive his text-messages but when i send him a message i get
this error: User offline


what could be the trouble ? (IIRC, he has not installed GTK+)
