I recognize that Ekiga is now at 2.0.9, but I'm not the package
maintainer with Ubuntu, and I don't want to be in the business of going
outside of the package manager.

However, Damien already answered my question: use the Default setting to
make Ekiga not try to take exclusive lock of the sound output.
