Yeah, tags support is on the table for the next development cycle. 
Jessie's already written a patch for the backend, it just needs a nice 
interface now.  I'm working on moving all of the different APIs to use a 
plugin interface right now, and my thinking is that the plugin should 
handle the UI as well, which means some re-working of the Journal 
window's code.  That's why you haven't seen anything in CVS yet, but 
it'll be there eventually :)
