That poll still only asks those, who read mls, /., osnews or whatever,
which just don't represent the "average" user.
It's way better than taking no opinion whatsoever. 300,000 people, is still,
three hundrend thousand people.
I'd be interested in how exactly you determined that. You don't need
polls if you already know what people want.
No, but there are some polls that you already know what's the most popular
option. E.g. the recent "what's your monitor resolution" osnews poll is on
par with research firms' findings (at least for the first two most used
resolutions). OSNews' or Slashdot polls might get governed by "power users",
but it's still a pretty good sample.
