I think that gnome-applets is big and hairy enough as it is; the clock,
wncklet and notification area are core applets (e.g. they're on the
default panel) and so it makes some sense for them to stay in
gnome-panel.
(Moving them in order to fix the miniscule problem of it not being
obvious where to find the code for these applets seem truly nonsensical
to me ...)
