The data doesn't arrive instantly however. The simple model is to handle
refreshes under full load in terms of a desired "frames per second"
gnome-terminal is also noticably faster with antialiasing off - as you'd
expect. That one seems to have a lot to do with poor render acceleration
in Xorg/XFree
